Is the air getting a bit crisper, or is it just me? Despite summer winding down, it doesn’t mean your travel plans need to. If there’s something coming up on your calendar, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card* could help you save some money. But you’ll need to act quickly.
Right now, the Venture Rewards card is offering a $250 Capital One travel credit in addition to 75,000 miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months of opening an account. But the $250 credit is only available until Sept. 9.
We rate credit cards using our Rewards / Travel methodology for cards tailored to earning rewards. We focus on each card’s reward potential, the value you get compared to the card’s cost, the benefits and the card’s rates and fees. Credit card issuers have no say or influence in our ratings. How we rate credit cards
How to earn the $250 travel credit
You don’t have to do anything to earn this credit except get approved for the Venture Rewards Card. You’ll need good to excellent credit to qualify, but can check to see if you’re likely to be approved with Capital One’s preapproval tool.
Is the Venture a good travel card beyond its welcome offer?
The Venture is one of the best travel cards you could pick at its $95 fee level. In addition to the limited-time credit, it provides an application fee credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry -- up to a $100 value. Just keep in mind that will only apply every four years when you need to renew.
Its rewards are simple -- 2x miles for every purchase and 5x miles for hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel -- but that makes them easy to earn and turn into value.
However, if you’re looking for airport lounge access, you’ll have to look elsewhere. Capital One Venture Rewards cardholders will lose complimentary access to Capital One lounges and Plaza Premium partner lounges after Dec. 31, 2024.
The only other thing holding the Venture back is Capital One’s selection of travel partners. There aren’t any domestic airlines you can transfer your points to. But, if you don’t use point transfers, that shouldn’t be a deal breaker for you.
